March 23rd, 2009: Starcom Update

This month we bring you the latest news and updates of February and March 2009, with new features in the Starcom online application, new members in the Starcom family and much more!

Since the launching of the Helios, we at Starcom have continued developing new applications, added to Starcom Online application on a weekly basis, using the advanced technology enabling updating the firmware over the air.

The Helios Basic unit is currently in its trial run, planned to be formally launched in April!

New features in the applications:

Starcom Online:

  • Events: Cellular Notification, E-Mail, and Monitor setting can now be set per event.
  • Groups: Users that belong to the same group can now share perimeters, routes, and events between them. This way multiple employees can see the same perimeters although they have different usernames.
  • Map: Added an option to switch from the regular maps to Google-based maps. A button now appears under every map shown in the application.
  • Note that some features are not yet available on Google maps and only available on the regular maps. They will be added later on this week.
  • Map: Flash maps – The map is now automatically resized to the maximum possible size.
  • Map: Google maps – The map is now automatically resized to the maximum possible size.
  • Map: Google maps – Clicking anywhere on the map will give the option to see the closest 5 vehicles to that location.
  • New Languages – Persian (فارسی) and Vietnamese (Tiếng Việt).
  • Plans – Basic: Added a basic plan for 'Receive alarms if the engine is on and the vehicle isn't moving', 'Receive alarms when a vehicle's door opens in a specific location', and 'Receive alarms about high speed in a specific location', and 'Receive alarms when entering/leaving a designated area'.
  • Plans – Basic: Modified to support Helios units.
  • Plans – Events – Types: Added 3 new system event types – 'Excess Idling', 'Door opening in a specific location', and 'High speed in a specific location'.
  • Reports – Usage: Time: Add a "logins" column that presents the number of logins the user had in the specified time range.
  • Reports: New report – "Events". This report can be used to see transmissions that were generated as a result of a specific Helios event type.
  • Units: Captions can be set and changed for Helios units.
  • Users: It's now possible to choose which users can change the tracking interval of the units.
  • Users: It's now possible to choose which users can edit the cellular numbers of the SIM cards of the units.
  • Users: Operators can now create users that can create their own users.This can be used, for example, to allow a fleet company manager to add his own employees and assign their authorizations.
  • Users: Specific reports access can now be set to allow or disallow specific users from accessing any of the reports of the system.

Control Center:

  • Modified for full support for the Helios devices.
  • Events window is now being saved when closing the application.

Routing Application:

  • Modified for full support for the Helios devices.
  • Helios devices can now be used as Terminals instead of LCU-500.

Installer Application:

  • Modified for full support for the Helios devices.
  • Added a wizard to simplify the first-time installation of a Helios device.

On the business aspect:

  • In the last few months 13 new operators have joint the Starcom family, and Starcom Systems' sevices are now available also in UAE, Liberia, Bahrain, Sudan, Turkey, Morocco and South Africa.
